A family-filled wedding day, from the bride’s childhood home to Agios Nektarios Church and a joyful celebration at Kanarinia.
November 22, 2024 • Agios Nektarios Church, Chania · Kanarinia Reception Hall · Bridal arrival by horse-drawn carriage
Some weddings begin at the church.
Others begin much earlier, inside a family home filled with voices, memories and generations gathered together.
Eleftheria and Charalampos’ wedding was one of those days.
The morning began at Eleftheria’s childhood home in Chania, surrounded by the people who had known her long before the wedding day arrived. Her sister, grandparents and relatives moved naturally through the rooms, helping with the final preparations and sharing the kind of quiet excitement that only exists when an entire family is living the moment together.
Nothing felt staged. The house was full, but the atmosphere remained warm and deeply personal. Every embrace, every glance and every small gesture carried the weight of shared history.
When it was time to leave, Eleftheria travelled to Agios Nektarios Church in a horse-drawn carriage — an entrance that brought a sense of romance and anticipation to the day without taking attention away from what mattered most.
At the church, she met Charalampos, and the way they looked at one another made everything else feel secondary. They were completely present, smiling constantly and visibly moved by the moment they had been waiting for.
The celebration continued at Kanarinia Reception Hall, surrounded once again by family and friends. It was a wedding defined not by spectacle, but by closeness — a day where love, family and tradition naturally became part of the same story.
Eleftheria’s preparation took place in the home where she had grown up.
The house quickly filled with relatives, familiar voices and the movement that naturally surrounds a wedding morning. Her sister stayed close, while her grandparents and extended family shared in the preparations, turning an ordinary family home into the emotional centre of the day.
There was no need to manufacture meaningful moments. They were already there — in the way her family watched her get ready, in the quiet exchanges between generations and in the feeling that everyone understood the importance of what was about to happen.
Eleftheria arrived at Agios Nektarios Church in a horse-drawn carriage, creating one of the most distinctive moments of the day.
The arrival felt romantic and ceremonial, but still personal. As the carriage approached the church, family and friends gathered outside, waiting to see her step down and walk towards Charalampos.
Inside the church, the ceremony unfolded with the familiar symbolism of an Orthodox wedding — the rings, the stefana, the Common Cup and the Dance of Isaiah.
Throughout it all, Eleftheria and Charalampos kept returning to one another with the same expression: calm, emotional and unmistakably in love.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued at Kanarinia Reception Hall.
The evening brought everyone together again — family, friends and the people who had shared the day from the very beginning.
The atmosphere was joyful and relaxed, shaped by music, conversation and the energy of a couple who never stopped smiling at one another.
Looking back, this wedding was not defined by a single grand moment. It was defined by the people around them, the family history carried through the day and the quiet certainty between Eleftheria and Charalampos from beginning to end.

One of the most beautiful aspects of a Greek wedding is that it rarely belongs only to the couple.
Long before the ceremony begins, parents, grandparents, siblings and relatives naturally become part of the celebration. Preparations often take place in the family home, where generations come together to help, celebrate and share the excitement of the day.
These moments are rarely planned or staged. They happen naturally — in the conversations between family members, the embraces before leaving for the church and the quiet emotions shared by the people who have watched the couple grow over the years.
For many couples, these family moments become some of the most meaningful photographs of the entire wedding day. Years later, they are often remembered just as vividly as the ceremony itself.
For destination couples visiting Crete, experiencing this sense of family and community is one of the things that makes a Greek wedding feel so different. Beyond the beautiful venues and landscapes, it is the people and their traditions that give the celebration its warmth and authenticity.

Many Greek brides choose to prepare in the home where they grew up, surrounded by close family and friends. It creates an intimate atmosphere and often becomes one of the most emotional parts of the wedding day.
Yes. While it isn’t part of the Orthodox ceremony itself, some couples choose a horse-drawn carriage to add a romantic and memorable touch to their arrival at the church.
Greek weddings have always been centred around family. Parents, grandparents, siblings and relatives all play an active role throughout the day, creating a celebration that feels deeply personal and shared by everyone involved.
Absolutely. Chania combines historic churches, welcoming reception venues, beautiful scenery and strong local traditions, making it one of the most popular destinations in Greece for both local and international couples.
