A heartfelt Orthodox wedding in a traditional Cretan village, followed by a peaceful next day session in the beautiful countryside of Voukolies.

April 26, 2025 • Church of Timios Stavros, Kakodiki, Crete

Some wedding days begin with excitement.

Others begin with emotion long before anyone arrives at the church.

Konstantina and Antonis’ wedding was one of those days where every meaningful moment happened naturally, surrounded by the people who knew them best.

The morning began in Kakodikí, a small traditional village in southern Chania, where Konstantina prepared in the family home where she had grown up. The stone house quickly filled with relatives, quiet conversations and the familiar rhythm that only exists before a village wedding. Every room carried memories, making the preparations feel deeply personal.

One moment, however, quietly became unforgettable.

As her father helped her put on her wedding shoe — a tradition still followed in many Greek weddings — emotion overwhelmed him. Smiling through tears, he paused for a moment, realising that the little girl he had watched grow up was beginning a new chapter of her life.

Across the village, Antonis’ family was experiencing their own emotions. His mother couldn’t hold back her tears as the reality of the day settled in, while his stepfather embraced him tightly beside his sister. No words were needed. The moment spoke for itself.

Their Orthodox ceremony at the Church of Timios Stavros reflected the quiet beauty of village life in Crete, before family and friends gathered at Nerantzia Reception Hall for a celebration that continued late into the evening.

Yet their story didn’t end there.

The following day, away from the schedule and excitement of the wedding itself, we met again in Voukolies. Beside the river and beneath the shade of its historic stone bridge, Konstantina and Antonis found something every couple deserves after such an emotional day: a few peaceful hours together, allowing the story to end as quietly as it had begun.

The Story

A Morning Full of Emotion

The wedding day began inside a small family home in Kakodikí, surrounded by parents, relatives and memories collected over a lifetime.

Nothing about the morning felt hurried. Conversations flowed quietly between rooms while the final preparations took place, creating the kind of atmosphere that simply cannot be recreated.

As Konstantina’s father helped her put on her wedding shoe, emotion quietly took over. It is a simple tradition, yet one that carries enormous meaning for many Greek families. Between smiles and tears, he shared one final fatherly gesture before walking beside his daughter towards one of the most important moments of her life.

At Antonis’ home, emotions were just as powerful. His mother openly wept as she watched her son prepare for the ceremony, while his stepfather wrapped him in a long embrace, joined by his sister in a moment that needed no explanation.

A Traditional Ceremony in Kakodikí

Hidden among the hills of southern Chania, the Church of Timios Stavros offered a peaceful setting for their Orthodox wedding ceremony.

Surrounded by family, lifelong friends and neighbours, the ceremony unfolded naturally, reflecting everything that makes village weddings in Crete feel so genuine. There was no sense of spectacle—only faith, family and two people completely present in the moment.

A Celebration at Nerantzia

As evening arrived, the celebration continued at Nerantzia Reception Hall.

Music, laughter and dancing quickly brought everyone together, transforming the emotions of the morning into a joyful celebration shared by family and friends.

Although an accident had prevented Konstantina’s mother from dancing that evening, her presence remained central throughout the celebration, sharing every important moment alongside her daughter and the rest of the family.

A Quiet Final Chapter in Voukolies

The following day felt completely different.

Without guests, schedules or expectations, Konstantina and Antonis were finally able to slow down and simply enjoy being together.

In Voukolies, beside the flowing river and the village’s beautiful stone bridge, the atmosphere became calm and unhurried. Rather than recreating the wedding day, the session captured something entirely different: relief, happiness and the quiet intimacy that often arrives once all the excitement has passed.

Sometimes the last chapter of a wedding story is also its most peaceful.

Why a Next Day Session Can Complete Your Wedding Story

Wedding days often pass more quickly than couples expect.

Between the ceremony, family photographs, congratulations and the reception, there is rarely enough time to slow down and simply enjoy being together.

A next day session offers something completely different. Without a timeline or waiting guests, couples can choose a meaningful location and experience the moment at their own pace.

Places like Voukolies, with its historic stone bridge, flowing river and peaceful countryside, provide a beautiful contrast to the energy of the wedding day itself.

Rather than replacing wedding photographs, a next day session completes the story by capturing the quieter moments that naturally follow such an emotional celebration.
