A Sunset Proposal at Petres Beach, Crete — Leon & Sandra

October 15, 2025 • Petres Beach, Crete

A quiet sunset proposal with a romantic picnic setup at Petres Beach, near Rethymno.

Leon planned a quiet sunset proposal at Petres Beach, on the northern coast of Crete near Rethymno. A small romantic picnic setup was prepared beside the sea, creating a clear destination for the couple without turning the moment into a staged photoshoot.

Before the proposal, we coordinated the timing and the way Leon and Sandra would approach the chosen point. The open shoreline allowed the photography to begin from a distance, so Sandra could experience the moment without immediate interruption.

The Proposal

As they reached the setup, Leon brought Sandra closer to the shoreline and asked her to marry him. The sky was cloudy rather than traditionally golden, creating soft light and a more dramatic atmosphere over the sea.

After the proposal, they had time to remain together beside the setup before we continued with a relaxed walk along the beach. The session followed the natural progression of the experience: the proposal itself, the first reactions, the ring and quiet portraits as daylight faded toward dusk.

Why Petres Beach Worked for This Proposal

Petres Beach offers a long, open shoreline and wide views across the sea. For this proposal, that space allowed the photographer to remain at a discreet distance while Leon and Sandra approached the romantic setup naturally.

The beach also provided enough room for the experience to continue after the proposal. Instead of moving to a second location, the couple could remain beside the sea and continue with relaxed portraits along the shoreline.

Privacy at Petres Beach cannot be guaranteed, particularly during the busier summer months. The exact point, time of day and expected visitor levels should therefore be considered during the planning process.

The cloudy sky during Leon and Sandra’s proposal created softer light and more dramatic photographs than a clear sunset. A proposal does not require perfect weather to produce a strong atmosphere; the plan should allow the experience to work with the conditions of the day.
