A minimalist white proposal setup and a quiet sunset at Petres Beach, near Rethymno.
July 08, 2026 • Petres Beach, Rethymno, Crete
Kushaal contacted us while planning his proposal to Sonali from abroad. He wanted the experience to remain simple, elegant and personal, without arches, large floral installations or decorative elements that would dominate the setting.
Petres Beach, near Rethymno, offered a long shoreline, open sea views and enough space to prepare a discreet setup away from the busiest parts of the beach. The location also allowed the proposal and the couple session afterward to take place in the same area.
The setup consisted of a white blanket, two bouquets of fresh white roses and warm LED candles. Each element followed the same restrained colour palette, allowing the beach and the evening light to remain part of the experience.
Before the proposal, we agreed on the exact meeting point, walking route, timing and the position where Kushaal would stop. These details were important because Petres Beach is open and the photographer cannot rely on a completely hidden position.
The plan gave Kushaal a clear route to follow while allowing Sonali to approach the setup without immediately noticing the photography.
Kushaal and Sonali walked toward the selected point as the light began to soften. When they reached the setup, Kushaal stopped beside the shoreline and proposed.
After the first reactions, they remained together beside the flowers and candles before continuing with relaxed portraits along the beach. The session moved naturally from the proposal itself to the ring, time beside the setup and a walk along the shoreline as the sun disappeared behind the surrounding landscape.
From the walk toward the setup and the proposal itself to the quiet portraits that followed along the shoreline.
A minimalist proposal does not mean placing a few unrelated objects on a beach. The setup still needs a clear visual direction and each element should contribute to the experience.
For Kushaal and Sonali’s proposal, the white blanket, white roses and warm LED candles followed one restrained palette. This created a cohesive setting without competing with the sea, the sand or the evening light.
A smaller setup can work particularly well when the location already provides a strong natural setting. Instead of adding arches, signs or large decorative structures, the styling can define the proposal point while allowing the surrounding landscape to remain visible.
Minimal setups also require careful positioning. The flowers, candles and seating area must be arranged so that the couple can approach naturally and the proposal can be photographed without the decorative elements blocking the view.
The success of this experience came from the combination of location, timing, coordination and styling. The limited number of decorative elements did not make the proposal incomplete; it kept the focus on Kushaal and Sonali.
Planning a proposal from another country requires a great deal of trust. After receiving the photographs, Kushaal shared these words about the experience:
I can’t recommend Patsiotis enough. From our very first conversation, he was incredibly professional, patient, and genuinely invested in making our proposal unforgettable. I was planning everything from overseas and had never even been to Crete, so I was putting a lot of trust in someone I’d never met. He guided me through every step, answered all of my questions, and made sure every detail was exactly as I had envisioned.
I had a very specific vision for the proposal, and Patsiotis brought it to life even better than I imagined. His patience, advice, and attention to detail turned what could have been a stressful experience into one that felt calm, smooth, and enjoyable. Because of him, I was able to be fully present and enjoy one of the biggest moments of my life.
The photos are absolutely incredible and capture every emotion perfectly. Every time we look at them, we’re taken right back to that moment. Beyond being an amazing photographer, Patsiotis is kind, thoughtful, and truly passionate about what he does. If you’re looking for someone to capture one of the most important moments of your life, I couldn’t recommend him more.
Thank you again for making my vision come to life and giving us memories we’ll cherish forever. It was an absolute pleasure working with you.
The setup included a white blanket, two bouquets of fresh white roses and warm LED candles placed beside the sea.
Yes. A limited number of carefully selected elements can create a complete setting when the styling, location and colour palette work together.
Petres Beach has a long, open shoreline with enough room for a small setup and a couple session afterward. Privacy depends on the season, time and exact section selected.
After the initial reactions and time beside the setup, we continued with relaxed portraits and a walk along the shoreline as the light changed toward dusk.
