A quiet beach, a carefully planned surprise and a proposal that never needed to feel staged.

Katie contacted us while trying to find a quiet and intimate place near Hersonissos where she could propose to Sarah at sunset.
She was not looking for decorations, a picnic setup or an elaborate production. Her priorities were privacy, natural surroundings and a plan that would preserve the surprise without making Sarah believe they were attending a formal photoshoot.
Several locations around Hersonissos and Analipsi were considered, including Sarantaris, the Hersonissos lighthouse area, Malia and Potamos Beach. Aposelemis Beach matched Katie’s preferences more closely because of its long shoreline, practical access and quieter atmosphere.
Katie and Sarah were staying near Hersonissos, so the location also needed to remain reasonably close to their accommodation and allow the evening to continue naturally afterward.
Aposelemis Beach offered enough open space to move away from the busier sections without requiring a long journey or difficult walk. Its western-facing coastline also provided suitable evening light for the proposal and photographs afterward.
Real proposal photographs from the same beach helped Katie understand how the location worked in practice. This was more useful than presenting another long list of theoretically attractive places.
The main challenge was not the location itself. It was finding a way to photograph the proposal discreetly on an open beach with no walls, vegetation or architectural features behind which a photographer could hide.
We discussed two possible approaches.
The first was to tell Sarah that Katie had arranged a romantic couple photoshoot and then propose during the session.
The second was to let the evening appear completely ordinary. I would already be sitting on the beach like another visitor. Katie and Sarah would walk naturally past me, continue further along the shoreline and stop when Katie felt the moment was right.
Katie immediately preferred the second option. She did not feel comfortable pretending to enjoy a planned photoshoot, and a simple walk along the beach felt much more natural to her personality.
The photographer did not need to be completely invisible. The aim was simply to appear unrelated to what was about to happen.
On the evening of the proposal, I was already seated in the agreed area before Katie and Sarah arrived.
From Sarah’s perspective, there was nothing unusual about the scene. They walked past me and continued along the beach without a formal signal or a precisely marked stopping point.
Once they had created enough distance, Katie turned toward Sarah and proposed.
The surprise remained intact, while the open space around them allowed the moment to feel personal even though the beach was not completely empty.
Afterward, we created a short collection of relaxed photographs while they were still processing what had happened. There was no need to recreate the proposal or move through a long sequence of poses. We photographed the ring, their reactions, a walk along the shoreline and the quiet moments that followed.
The agreed service included proposal photography only.
Maria had also recorded a few short moments while helping document the experience. After the photographs were delivered, she edited them into a brief video as a surprise gift for Katie and Sarah.
It was not a formal cinematic proposal film or part of the original package. It was simply another perspective on an evening they had experienced from inside the moment.

Aposelemis Beach was not selected only because of its appearance. It answered several practical and emotional requirements of Katie’s plan.
The long shoreline provided room to create distance from other visitors. As with any public beach, complete privacy could not be guaranteed, but the open space made the experience feel less crowded than many organised beaches near Hersonissos.
Access was also straightforward. Katie and Sarah could reach the relevant section without a difficult walk or complicated route, allowing the evening to feel like a natural visit to the beach rather than an organised excursion.
The open landscape required a different photography strategy. There was no realistic place to remain physically hidden, so the plan relied on the photographer blending into the surroundings as another visitor. Once Katie and Sarah had walked past, the proposal could be documented from a discreet distance.
Timing the proposal before the exact sunset time provided softer light and enough time for photographs afterward. The beach’s proximity to Analipsi also made it easy to continue the evening with dinner without a long drive.
The main lesson from this experience is that a natural proposal still requires careful planning. Choosing the right route, agreeing on the photographer’s position and avoiding complicated signals allowed Katie to act when the moment felt right.
Planning did not make the proposal less spontaneous. It removed the practical distractions that could have interrupted it.
